So I'm just about to start my first welds and hooked up the argon conversion kit regulator to my bottle and attached the hose to the welder when I wondered should the regulator adjusting knob be full backed off when opening the gas cylinder or does it not matter?
I never bother and I don't think many others do either. If you do then you have to set your flow rate up again each time you start up, easier to leave the flow as it is and just turn the gas on and off as required.
Depends how long you leave it between welding. A few days then no problem, weeks then I would back it off to relieve pressure on the springs inside the reg.
If you are using 230/300bar cylinders you should always back off the pressure adjustment screw each time you turn the cylinder valve off otherwise each time you open the cylinder valve you are "smacking" the diaphragm in the regulator with 230 bars worth of gas which, in time, will knacker it
