Regulator Popping/clicking

Hi,
I haven't used my mig welder for a while......after spending an hour finding it in the shed I connected the gas bottle to my welder and the regulator seems to be making a clicking popping noise !! It's a single stage regulator with twin gauges, when this noise starts the needles bounce backwards and forwards...The regulator is about 5 years old but only used on a couple of occasions and is like brand new!! The gas cylinder is one of the volkszone boc ones....
Has anyone had this happen before ? Is it repairable ??

Regulators are shelf life items. Although theres not much going in inside one. It would be more advisable to change it out for a new one given the relatively low cost of them, and the safety factor.

Try screwing the reg knob right in then right out then set your pressure and try it again. Mine sometimes makes weird noises but the pressure stays constant so it just gets ignored.

Regulators can get sticky sometimes and creak. Sometimes tapping it frees it up, or screw it and out as Pedro has stated. If in doubt always buy new.

Mine used to do this, screwing it all the way in and out would help, eventually it stopped doing it.

Cheers for the replys , i will have another look at it tomorrow , I'll try Screwing the reg knob right in and out, see what happens. It's possible some dirt got in it when it wasn't in use. I did think about taking it apart to have a look in it...
