Hi all what regulator do I need for a CO2 Ffire extinguisher, I want to use it for mig welding, and I cannot find anywhere where I can buy or even hire a cylinder, theres 100 argon available, oxy acetylene available, but not CO2, BTW before you all tell me it is, I am on the portuguese islands of the Azores, I have a CO2 extinguisher, but I need to know what thread it needs, will upload a pic of thread next post thanks guys for anyhelp

I think Nathan has stated previously that he is on Madeira or the Azores.Mainland Portugal ? No ?
No worries, its island mode here too!Yep, stupid me. Not awake.
Very comprehensive thank you againHi Nathan,
I've been using pub co2 bottles and co2 fire extinquishers for a few years (UK based) - both with the same co2 regulator from the forum supporters https://www.weldequip.com/co2-conversion-kit.htm very handy as it includes a quick-connect fitting that matches the gas pipe on my welder - your fitting may be different. I think Portugal fittings are the same as UK but you need to check.
I always use the fire extinguishers upright and have never had a problem, some folk have warned this will cause them to stop working / freeze / destoy the regulator etc. Not in my experience but do your own research.
I got told to avoid pub bottles with white (or black?) stripe as they have a dip tube inside that won't work with mig, this seems good advice but is not relevant if you only use fire extinguishers.
I only do occasional hobby / car repair welding but 1 fire extinguisher normally lasts me for several projects, it's also a very handy size to take with me if I need to do welding away from home They last many times longer than the small "hobby" bottles that came with my welder.
