right this is probably gonna seem stupid but here goes, i have bought the misses a car on ebay for her birthday and obviously it is a supprise. just wondered if anyone knows if i can sign the v5 in her name and address and stuff but without her actually signing the bit of paper? dont really want to have to sign it into my name then into hers

AFAIK the V5 shows the keeper, not the owner, so you could be the keeper whilst your wife owns it.

There may ne insurance implications though.

do swansea actually know what you wife signature or anyone's look like. i know it on you licence now but that would need there systems to be fully intergrated which is unlikely.

just sign it.

I'm a bit concerned about the number of posts suggesting forgeries or obtaining signatures by deception.

Keep it legal, I'm sure your wife wouldn't be too chuffed if she had the car confiscated and was left by the roadside.

The vendor sends the V5 in, not the purchaser, so it has to be signed when the vehicle is handed over.

Id get the seller to hold onto it then when she see's the car get her to sign it, unless the car is a million miles away that is, or id just sign it myself lol!! :-P

yeh thats the thing the seller will have to sign it and send it off so no chance that i can get here to sign without knowing about it, i remeber i sold a bike a little while ago and the guy sent his brother to pick it up, think he just filled in the details and signed it never heard anything back about it so i guess they dont really care as long as its signed.

pickin it up 2morow so will give the dvla a ring before to see what sort of trouble i could get into, worst comes to the worst ill fill it in with my details and have to sawp it to hers when the v5 arrives

It doesn't have to be signed by the new buyer, just put a squiggle (or initials) in the box. Even if you left the box completly empty the tranfer should/would still go through ok

They don't check signatures or anything daft like that

I have filled in rake loads of V5's for other people when collecting vehicles on their behalf.
