Refurbishing Cut off saw

Hello welders around the world,

Recently I bought a used cut off saw. It's a Hitachi CC14SF, the motor worked just fine. But during test cut, the cut formed was not squared, its a bit off.

Do any of you had any recommendations for what I can do to solve this problem?

Welcome Raimi. Sometimes I find with my cut off saw (very similar to yours) if I try too hard to push it through the cut it will wander off a bit. Depends what you are cutting as to how gentle you need to be (100x100 box needs a fair bit of just letting it find it’s way through).

I’d also check how much play is in the pivot and as above, check the blade is square to the vice. I do this with a small steel engineers square sitting flat on the “bed” and against the blade.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try my best adjusting the vice. It's full of rust and screws are stuck.

Welcome Raimi. Sometimes I find with my cut off saw (very similar to yours) if I try too hard to push it through the cut it will wander off a bit. Depends what you are cutting as to how gentle you need to be (100x100 box needs a fair bit of just letting it find it’s way through).

Yep. I've seen videos online, the blade may wander a bit if you push too hard. If I use a smaller blade would it decrease the blade bending?
