Refurbing a wiring loom

its hard to get a bad solder joint on a small cable easy not to krimp it right

scotch locks, ARRRRRRRhhhh, horrible things, only time you could use them is a get you home emergency repair, even then I would rather not.

You have to use the correct sized wire & tool for the crimps, also supported soldered joints are OK as in a loom don't like them on spade type there are also different types of insulated crimps some have a cable insulation grip that crimps as well (a more expensive option) the glue lined heat shrink is good.
With the insulated I would say 50% of ones I see have either too big or too small a cable in them because Blue is the color
Many moons ago Robo* we did Thatcham & yes all joints had to be soldered in the loom today check your insurance for hot work in vehicle

I've finally managed to get time to strip the rest of the wiring loom out of the camper and I was thinking of buying a new one to replace it, however they now seem to be around £300 and not quite correct for our camper.

So now I'm thinking of keeping the original one, cleaning it up, replacing all the connectors including the few multi blocks and retaping it.

For cleaning - carb cleaner for the general muck and something a bit stronger where its got old overspray on it.
New connectors - use the crimp ones with heat shrink casings
'Modern' multi blocks instead of the blade type
And possibly a blade fuse block instead of the old torpedo type

I may add a few extra circuits as well!

Sound like a plan? Anyone got a better ideas?

for wrapping the loom i'd highly reccomend tesa tape, i cant stand insulation tape it goes horrible sticky guey mess after a while

^^ and the coils slip over one another too. Loom tape is better because you stretch it as you wind it on. I've rewired 3 cars with it and had no problems.
