Refill old bottle

A mate has just given me an old pub CO2 bottle anyone know if/where I can get it filled with Argon mix in North Bristol/South Glos area?

Or shall I just leave it alone and get a deposit bottle from a reputable company.

It's CO2 cylinder not Ar/CO2 so you can't, simple as that.
Either get it exchanged for a full CO2 or start again with an argon mix one.

Leave it alone and do the job properly.

1) You shouldn't put a gas in a bottle that isn't designed or marked up for that gas.

2) CO2 is stored as a liquid at 50 bar, Argon mix is stored as a gas at 150 bar or thereabouts.

Ok thanks, I thought that might have been the case. So I can get it refilled with CO2 and weld with that if I choose, but I understand my welds will be more spattery and I believe I'd be better off with Argon mix. Sorry for the novice questions.

I've found a place locally that charge £60 deposit on the bottle, no rent and £30 for the gas so £90 first hit then just £30 each refill. That looks to be the going rate so I think I'll go with that to be safe.

if that price is for CO2, you might be better looking at someone like Adams gas who have an initial charge of £102 for a cylinder, will refund £55 if take the cylinder back and refill charge of £36

I was using CO2 for nearly 20 years,and have signed up for the BOC deal today (see the last few pages of the link below for prices

thats how I understand it to work too, and CO2 will probably work out much cheaper too than an argon mix

That was the price I was looking at for Argon mix, so Adams gas is pretty much in the same ball park. £85 for the bottle deposit and £30 for the refill. But thanks for the link, there's a supplier near my work so it gives me another option

I am just glad you have the sense to ask. I have known of some horror stories of people re filling bottles.

i guess it depends how much gas your going to use.

if only a little and its now and then, i would imagine the rent free bottles would work out cheaper.
but if you plan to do more then that. it may work out cheaper for the BOC hobby gas deal.
also watch to what the bottles are filled too as that can make a fair difference.
