been looking into signing up to a recruitment agency for those times when work is a bit quiet.

have found a few local to me that seem pretty good for me.

work under my own name, with my own tools and insurance and so on just like normal. mostly work on new builds on sites where materials are already waiting. I have all the relevant docs to do this just wondering if anyone else does it and if so how do you find it?

they claim to guarantee to be able to find me a gig local to me within 2 hours of me phoning to see whats on, they pay direct into bank and I am responsible for tax and so on (I prefer it that way, easier to keep a track of) and all of my power tools are Makita 18V and safety tested. nothing to run from mains so no worries about needing 110V.

I figure that if there is no work coming to me, I'm not earning anything, so I may as well work for a bit less than normal and go to where the work is.

agency take their cut off the top of what the client pays them so what they tell me they will pay me is what I get in the bank.

Ask what rates they are paying, new builds are cut to the bone.

they quote each job individually. get told the job and price, over the phone then if I accept it I go in, sign to say im undertaking the job and then go to the site.

work fast and get out. gotta be better than sitting and waiting for the phone to ring

ummmmm would be weary myself.

ive gone to some jos before been told i have to X and get payed Y for doing it then seen the job and its been rather a lot diffrent

yeah my brother worked through an agency for a few years and in the end he gave it up because the jobs were a lot different to the work he was expecting.

just thinking that it could help with income every now and then. nothing permanent or as a sole income, just something to top up the weeks earnings

You'll have to, they probably only price a couple of hours for first fix these days

ive seen jobs on sites and the price isnt worth getting out of bed for work or no work if u get a job with them nail the price and go look yourself before comitting only a fool doesnt. i beleve nothing till ive seen it
