This might be a bit off topic here although it is the sort of thing you
would discuss over a brew.
I'm lucky enough to have a nice big double garage. The downside is that
the walls not attached to the house (3 of them) are only sinlge skin and
it gets _cold_ during the winter here in Edinburgh.
The house has gas central heating, the boiler's on the wall in the garage
with the flue outside, about 8ft high.
When the boiler's on there's an unbelieveable amount of _hot_ air pumped
out of the flue. I recon this would heat a big room in a minute or two.
After a bit of research I found they do this to stop condensation in the
flue which reduces maintenance probelms. You can get boilers that recover
a lot of this heat but they're more expensive.
My idea is to mount an intercooler outside in the exhaust gas (far enough
away not to interfere with the flow out) and using some flexible hose
and an old PC fan pump the air from the garge through the intercooler
and back into the garage to get a bit of free heat.
I've an Uno Turbo intercooler I got on ebay for £5, it just needs a bit of a
clean and I'm ready to go, I'll do a test to make sure it's not leaking
before I start.
What do you reckon, will it work?
