Just got back. Panicked call from my friend's wife... Wheel "dropped off", unsafe position, kids in a field, she was some way away, could I go out, etc.
Anyway, yep, no wheel on the front of their Nissan estate car thing. By the time I got there he had found the wheel. Holes in the alloy a bit chewed and one of the hub studs sheered.
Car in a bad position, on a fast bit of road, so, rightly or wrongly, I stole a nut from each of the other wheel, refitted the slightly chewed wheel and drove behind him, very slowly, on the way back, both cars with hazards etc (kids in a different car at this point)
Anyway, on inspection when it was safe, it seems the wing has buckled and is proud of the door, and the bonnet panel gap has all closed, however, the lump of plastic "somthing" on the front end of the sill is still in place, so it's not like the sill took a whack.
...and I can't really see another impact point on the wing. The front, umm, valance (?) is full of mud on that side, so maybe that was the impact site, but it doest seem damaged there. Or at least not enough damage to stuff the wing.
Maybe the wheel itself hit the arch as it was coming off?
I'm no longer involved. The car is in a safe position and all the humans are safe. I took a pack of biscuits out for them all (sugar / shock) which the kids thought were great, as they continued fighting with sticks in the field (with no sign of shock at all - so I'm a pack of hobknobs down for no reason at all! : )
Anyway, I'm just curious -
I clearly have no photos, and don't even know exactly what car it is, but do you think this will be a write off, or a new wing panel, hub, and possibly / probably a new alloy and it's all good?
I have no idea how durable modern cars are. As I say, sill plastic was still in place, no warning lights on the dash or anything like that, but a good line down the road from the brake disk.
All good mother's Day stuff, I guess.
