I had a camera hooked to a Happauge TV card, with free motion detecting software triggering it to record. You have to have it in a place with no sunlight though or it'll get triggered by clouds moving across the sun etc.
I tried it. I wouldn't bother, buy a CCTV DVR, such as an Alien, comes with software to program the cameras, network ready, if you have a static IP address you can view over the net. Record full frame on all 4 channels, etc etc
I have a mish mash of different cameras i bought in drips and drabs when an uncle of mine died and his house was empty. To be honest i have been talking to a local copper i know and he says they know most of the break ins have been done by some teenage members of the scrap metal community, i am sure you know who i mean , they aren't the brightest and have gotten away with it so long due to sheer luck.
I'll look into what you have said and see what i can afford to do, i have firearms in the house and its always a worry that i'll be targetted for them so security is paramount.
