Ours is a Pansonic, bought in 2001 and still going, although little used these days. Takes 500g flour max. Brilliant machine. The attention to detail is fascinating. The shape of the paddle, the number of rotations, the direction. The pulsing. I can imagine a design team of Japanese engineers peering into and making execeutive decisions? Ah Paddle too big! Go wrong way! More Water! Our local bakery has stopped baking their own loaves and I miss having a warm loaf just from the oven [acts as a hand-warmer on the way back from the shop too ] and I fancy having a go at making my own.
I couldn't be a*sed with all the mess of making my own dough etc so I'm considering a small bread-maker. Needs to be a small one as kitchen worktop space is at a premium. I've been doing the usual searches [Amazon/Currys/John Lewis/ even eBay ] but there's a bewildering choice of makes, loaf sizes, capabilities, prices etc.. Online reviews can't always be believed..... so I'd rather have some personal recommendations from them as know.
Does anyone here [or their SWMBO] use one and can make an honest appraisal? I'd even consider a used one if anyone on here has one available?
They are.Years ago I bought a cheap Tesco own brand breadmaker s/h for three quid just to try it out. Was very impressed with the bread, but the machine only lasted a couple of years. I bought a Panasonic as that’s what everyone recommended, and it is very good. Normally do an ordinary white loaf, have also done brioche and ciabatta, and will be doing marmalade next week when the pectin arrives.
I’ve been making my own by own for years.
@slim_boy_fat how are getting along with your bread making machine?
We have a modern Dualit toaster, the dial goes up to 9. White plastic bread is burnt to a crisp on setting 3. Any bread made in the machine needs at least 5. I'm not sure what this means, but the machine bread makes much better toast.
This goes down well with SWMBO and the locals.nothing too adventurous yet
Had a SD2500 for about 4/5 years ,baked 1500 loaves had 3 failures ,so far, due to my mistakes . You don't NEED a fruit dispenser etc . 3 minutes to load . Takes longer than that to remove supermarket bread substitute from the roof of my mouth.Spotted this on Panasonic website £99

The missus nearly set the house on fire with the bread maker the other day.
