I've got some "sif bronze" rods and a pack of pink flux and I just can't get on with them at all. It might be me, it might be my setup, it might be my expectations but I've never been able to get any decent results so figured I'd try some different rods before throwing in the towel.
Using oxy-propane at the moment, I could hook up an acetylene cylinder that has "some" left in it but I'd rather not if possible. It would be more hassle than the tiny amount of brazing I'll need to do is worth. Plus, I want to use propane.
It seems like I can never get the metal locally hot enough, I expect the rod to wick in when the metal is glowing but you've got to get it all so hot, the steel is often sagging by the time the braze will flow.
Maybe silver solder would better match my expectations but was wondering if anyone has any recommendations to try out too.
