Recommend me a small TIG torch?

Ive got a nice water cooled unit that i uses every day but i'm after something a little smaller.


Do they do small water cooled torches or just air cooled?

Mostly just be running a 1.6mm tungsten in it and doing light ally sheet and stainless tube work.

Normally the warer cooled torches come in smaller sizes than the air cooled, just guessing but you probs have a wp 26, I would think you could find a wp 17 yo suit the machine

A WP 20 is the smallest off the shelf water-cooled torch I know of. It's the same physical size as a WP 9.

The WP 9 is rated at 90 amps and the WP 20 is 300 amps.

I've got a WP20, it's the Starparts one. Lovely torch compared to the WP26 my machine came with, in particular the cables/hoses/sheath combination is much lighter and more flexible.

first thing i did was ditch the 26 torch. i use a 17 flex head with some small ceramics the same size the stubby kit use on the wp9 makes it so much better to use.

Have a WP20, the only fault I can find with it the flex head doesn't move much, I'm frit of putting too much pressure on it in case I bust it.

It's not the replacement cost (I've 4 or 5 in a box) It's the thought of 40psi of glycol and water spraying everywhere for what would seem like forever before I got to the socket

Matt you sure the wp20 is rated to 300amps???

It depends on brand etc and even then published limits/duty cycles vary. WP20 type/size typically start at 250A DCEN/180A AC but you can get 300A wp20 size torches. Sometimes they'll be the 'heavy duty' version (WeldTec) or 'Crafter series' (Weldcraft), CK master series have the 230. Usually the AC rating is smaller than the published DCEN numbers, CK rate all their torches the same amperage for both DCEN and AC

I recently purchased a Ck 9 Flex head air-cooled torch (125amp AC/DC) as I wanted something smaller and lighter.

Compared to my Ck Trimline 210 (26 size / 200amps) the 9 isn't that much smaller dimensionally, but the weight difference is like night and day and I find it really helps me to make better more consistent welds.
