Recommend me a Quick Change Tool Post QCTP

Looking to get one, but don't want some inaccurate chinese junk (but accept some of the better stuff is going to be made over there anyway)

my current toolpost is 75x75x63mm

has anyone bought one or have any recommendations of brands to go for/avoid?

if u have the dosh to spare big £££££ get a dixon quick change tool post . unless u are changing the tools regular i wouldnt bother unless one came up cheap

I also endorse Dixon qc tool posts and have had them on my last three lathes. The one on my Colchester Master 2500 is about 100mm square and is called a 'T2' iirc. A qc tool post will always give you more sideways overhang than a none qc, but unless things are worn & sloppy it isn't an issue. I spoilt my self by fitting one as a rear tool post also, and it usually holds an inverted parting tool.

I have a a Phase II on my Atlas/Craftsman. Yes, it is Chinese but good quality.

another dixon fan.... I picked one up for under £100 with about 8-10 toolholders

Hi,
I bought a dixon one for my Myford S7. I am guessing you want something slightly larger? The one I got was from a company called A&R precision. They used to supply Myford (before RDG bought them out). They are fantastic quality for about the same price as the chinese copies. He also sells on e-bay. I don't know if he does bigger stuff though.

I have no commercial connection with this company just a satisfied customer.

Dickson are the best i have a T2 some where but need around 30 holders = extortionate.
Gave a monster Dickson away some years ago, still got grease on.

Those Aloris and other rebranded aint too bad available from Gloster, Allendale etc, all the same. 250/200 series equate to 3" sq foot print.

The best tool post out there by far is these the second to last image. These multifix posts are so ridged because of the massive contact area they have. They also allow the tool to be moved in position without moving the central post , which no other tool post can do, this means you can read off the dials without error for different positions of the same tool.... of course they do not come cheap, but by far the best money can buy and the most versatile.

The multifix qctp was recommended to me by a german engineer friend, after a year of watching eBay I recently managed to get one with 5 tool holders for a little over £100. Just had a t-nut milled to fix it to my compound slide, can't wait to use it! Like Scott posted, the body can be moved without loosening it's footing, in steps of 9 degrees (so 40 positions) which means you can instantly change from a perpendicular cut to a 45 deg or 90 deg without realigning the tool.
