Recommend me a lawn mower!

Moving to a new place next week that has a largish sized tiered garden and am in the market for a lawn mower.

Ill probably go for something petrol powered, but before I potentially waste my money can recommend me some brands to look at? Budget probs £300 max

honda izy is a great little machine.
my nan does gardening and hammers the life out of them shes on her 3rd one in 10 years do a casual user should last 20 years

Another vote for the Honda Izy, got mine second hand a few years ago and never misses a beat.

How steep are the tiers - are they in grass too?

If you get one with an oil alert, it won't cope with too much of an incline without cutting out.
Don't disregard out of hand something 2-stroke, which will work at any angle.

I got a second hand honda over 20 years ago, it does about 1/4 acre each summer, neglected it,never serviced, took an angle grinder to sharpen the blade as couldnt get it off, never has it failed to start even though I use the two stroke mix from my chain saw in it, probably the best machinery investment pound/value I have ever made! I've got a Honda, albeit electric, and quality is "top notch". I've had petrol Honda in the past and they are brilliant for large areas.

Three flat tiers with a few stone steps up to each so no inclined to worry about

honda best for the money

older briggs and stratten all generaly good

leave anything alone that younger then 10 years old they are made carp

if you can get one with a aly deak there great as they dont rot

if looking at 2nd hand tap around all of the metal as if steel they rot but will depend how its been used if cleaned or used moslty when dry it will be fine

and make sure the engine is a good make briggs honda etc as parts can be got a mates got a champion china engine not good as if it goes will prob need a new engine as partsnot easy to get

My Honda izy going strong after 12 years, no service, one spark plug. Worth trying to get one with self propulsion ( a second lever that engages a lurch drive). Likes petrol not to be a year old!

We have a husquavarna that was quite expensive to buy but is not great. Tis more plastic than anything. The best part is the honda engine that I'm absolutely sure will outlive the rest of the machine. When the rest of the mower gives up the ghost I'll be looking for an older mower in need of a transplant.

I bought a Husqvarna LC 153V last year and can't recommend it highly enough.
It has a Honda engine, is self-propelled, and has mulching facility so what used to take me 2 hours including emptying the grass bin now takes 30 minutes.

It might be slightly outside your budget at £380 but I bought and sold three mowers before settling on this so would have been cheaper to just buy it in the first place.

Edit: Post crossed with Hollow's. Can't speak for other models, but the carriage here is all steel. Plastic wheels, which I think is standard, but this model at least seems very sturdy.

Ours is the older model that looks looks quite similar to that one skotl and i do agree that it has its plus points. The deck is still perfect as are the wheels. What let it down for me is all the plastic parts which have become brittle over the years plus the height adjustment packed in early in the battle. Having said that it still works after ten or so years its just annoying to pay top money for gear and it not be brilliant. All our garden gear is stihl and that stuff works like clockwork year after year.
