A proper enclosure would occupy a maximum of 1" extra space, externally, if using 1/2" material. Technically, it'd actually take less space because you wouldn't be taping flaps down to the floor at the bottom, so I can't see where the space issue comes in, and transportability is a non point too. Removable panel or door, and whip the compressor out of the cabinet.




I once made a spray booth from very large, heavy wall cardboard boxes with a salvaged extractor fan. Sprayed laquer on the inside to seal it initially from producing dust. It was a temporary thing to restore an old bike and to spray some car panels. Worked a treat, I was sad and reluctant to dispose of it when finished with
