Recommend me a compressor.

A proper enclosure would occupy a maximum of 1" extra space, externally, if using 1/2" material. Technically, it'd actually take less space because you wouldn't be taping flaps down to the floor at the bottom, so I can't see where the space issue comes in, and transportability is a non point too. Removable panel or door, and whip the compressor out of the cabinet.

Not sure why you are arguing about it, it will work end off. The points i have made are valid and are the reasons why i did it that way. It cost me £2 which is a bargain. It does not need an inch of extra space, it has enough space inside the box. Can you not see the amount of space i have spare in that area, not much at all ?

I never said i wanted a 'proper' enclosure, i just want something that will work for now until i can build a wood one when the engine has been fitted. It dont need a door, i just lift the box off it lol. Its far better than nothing and it will stop the solvent getting into it and breaking it again for now.

Just get the biggest that you can afford, that will run on your electrics, and be adequate for most applications that you are likely to need in the future. I made the mistake some years ago buying a small 'Tiger' and soon regretted it. Even when updating I found later when deciding to spray 2pack that it was not up to the job of also running a mask. The small compressor i have for now works well enough for what i currently need it for for 1k paints. When i do get a bigger more CFM model i will make a 'proper' enclosure for it. Although i wont make a door as that could let solvent through the gaps etc.

As ive tried to explain, the cheap box i have made will do the job for what i need it for, for now. I did not want to waste money/time to make a wood one when the current compressor wont be used for it, the new one will. I also didn't want to waste time/money making a wood enclosure where its currently placed in the garage.

Although its a bodge enclosure, its a bodge that will work and thats good enough for me right now.

Nothing wrong with the Blue Peter approach I once made a spray booth from very large, heavy wall cardboard boxes with a salvaged extractor fan. Sprayed laquer on the inside to seal it initially from producing dust. It was a temporary thing to restore an old bike and to spray some car panels. Worked a treat, I was sad and reluctant to dispose of it when finished with

That was back when the family business was still going, we had a 3500 sq ft unit, had a 2 post lift, screw compressor with plumbed air, 3 phase, a lathe, the lot !! Spoilt me that did, now that I have no real space to work from

I just sheet out my place Dexter-style, soon enough the paint dust is everywhere but it's easy & cheap to re-do. Hot-glued bits of hard foam out of ammo boxes around the place for pinning onto.

The compressor has been working fine but once its been used for a while, say 20 minutes or so it takes a long time to reach max pressure again, compared to when its first been switched on. Im not sure if its the head again or because its a cheap one and once its hot it doesn't work as well. The air pipe has been off just to see if it was because of a leak somewhere but its still the same.

Could be that worn bore showing it's face !

Could it be the bore, its just when cold it gets to pressure very fast.

Can the bore be replace easily enough ?

The clue is that it takes longer when it's been used, therefore hot. A worn bore and or piston seal would cause that. The cylinder would have to be replaced to resolve the wear, if that is done then the piston seal would also need to be replaced.

Well i had a look at it last night and found there was a very small hole on the valve plate, this time it has took quite a while to break again, so i must be doing something right in making it last longer.

The bore and ring are £8 posted inc VAT, will get them by the weeks end i hope, then lacquer the engine bay and finish off the floor panels etc. Im still buying the bore etc just so it's more reliable and quicker at filling up. The original bore seems fine no lip or nothing however the ring may be a little worn.

at that price its good for piece of mind of spares
