Recommend me a cheap 6/7 seater

I miss my Mazda Bongo as it had 8 seats, I could really do with a 6 seater under 4k Diesel.
What would you buy and why?
6 adults 4 of the 6 footers

I miss my old Toyota Previa, proper 8 seater with boot space, with the seats out could move tonnes of stuff, kids loved it too but the Mrs couldn't live with it for just going shopping etc.
Don't miss the fuel consumption tho..

Wouldnt buy a Diesel anything these days , no gain what so ever compaired to the potential time bomb , petrol every time . Common rails killed diesels , especially at that price point .

You couldnt give me a disco , any model , buy something Jap and petrol and just drive it ,,, buy a disco and you will never be done fixing the rust , the not starting , the bits dropping off the leaks ,, ie everything on the inside trying to get out , and everything on the out side leaking in ... a crew bus transit will run circles round a disco in 95% of all situations , and they are not that great either.

I did 60k miles in mine, hundreds of miles off road and green laning in mine

It never leaked once, yes it had a bit of rust but my 5 year old L200 would have a swiss cheese chassis if I didnt protect it and I doubt it will be on the road at 20 years old like the D2

I knew I was getting the , nothing like a land rover thing ,,, Im not going into it all again ,, just think of it this way ,,,, ask any land rover owner what their next job is , and they will tell you , if not give you a list .
Ask some one who drives something Jap and they will wonder what your on about ,,, Its a land rover thing.
As for anyone who drives a 4x4 that actuall does not have to for some reason , mad as a box of frogs , poor mpg , more bits whizzing round to wear out and have to fix , less mpg , more tax etc etc etc

I knew I was getting the , nothing like a land rover thing ,,, Im not going into it all again ,, just think of it this way ,,,, ask any land rover owner what their next job is , and they will tell you , if not give you a list .
Ask some one who drives something Jap and they will wonder what your on about ,,, Its a land rover thing.

Thats just how it seems to work from my long and bitter experience ,, repairing land rovers bought me my Audi.

I disagree, basic servicing and only 1 failure. Like I said, 60k on and off road and the failure really was my fault, belt tensioner seized and I knew it was on it's way out

One piece of advice.
DON'T BUY A VAUXHALL!
It doesn't matter how shiny it is or if it's cheap, If it's a diesel it WILL go wrong. Absolute ****e! (Zafira)
EGR valves, DPF filters, swirl flaps, all manor of engine management lights and limp home nonsense.
I was glad when my wife reversed ours into the skip and smashed the back end in and very glad when we got offered £1600 part ex on it!
The petrol ones are probably a bit better but please remember it's still a VAUXHALL!
I'd say at 4 grand you'd be looking at a really nice Honda HRV 6 seater petrol Vtec or an older Mitsubishi Outlander (they're a Peugeot)
If you want a 4x4 then a lot of the Toyota Land Cruiser's are 7 seats but expensive to run but it probably won't break down!
Not sure if you'd get a Volvo that's any good for 4K....
Ford Galaxy or C Max seem pretty decent cars but don't get an auto with Power Shift as the early ones had loads of problems.

certainly ,,, A6 not the allroad , in petrol ,,, with the 7 seat pack ,,,
but I drive an allroad , as I tow dive boats up slips , and I dont actually need seven seats , and Im not the original poster . I just said I use the money from welding LR to pay for my Audi , never did I say it would suit the original posters question .

I guess there are plenty of 6, 7 or 8 seaters about cheap but it depends on MPG and cost of running as to what cheap really means, i don't do lots of miles so MPG is not big factor i am more into reliability and practical use, as a daily driver i have a Toyota Granvia 2wd its not expensive to run if you forget fuel at 30 MPG at best but comfort is high and 7 adults fit in east plus luggage if you need any and if they ban diesel tomorrow it will make a nice shed.

Ah because nothing jap has any issues with, say, breaking in half do they?

To seat 6 adults with plenary leg room for all And still have a decent boot I would be looking at a transit crew van.

There are plenty of bad ones about, but with careful research and a keen eye good ones are out there to be found.

Very similar to disco 2s , except lots more expensive to fix , every time they break down . To be fair they dont rust any where near as bad as the early ones ,, but the bills that come with them are outrageous .
