Recommend me a welding lamp/light.

Can someone recommend me a good strong car lamp for use when welding ?

Ones that are not made out of crappy plastic.

What model exactly did you have in mind?
Something portable, something on a stand or something that slides below the car for working underneath?

I made myself something that clamps a fluorescent light over the bonnet or over the roof (through the doors) for inside work.
Cheap, out of your working area and massive amounts of light...

All i can add is that LED ones seem to be the way to go. Very bright & low energy (at least the battery powered ones are.)

Same here, small enough to hold while welding, can be propped somewhere etc. I've got a 30-LED thing shaped sort of like an 80s mobile phone....

I dont really care as long as its got a very crisp clear bright light that can direct it with a bright backing.

Thanks but thats not a 3 pin type plug.

I wonder when they will start selling welding masks with an led light eh ?

The toolstation 240v light is a standard 3 pin plug.I guess the 110v version has an industrial plug.I tried an led one on my mask once but couldn't get it to aim right.

Great thanks, ill give them a try.

Ill end up using a load of plasticine to keep it in place, the ebay one has 16 led's so it should have a big enough light shroud to see the spool.

I'm pretty sure they already exist.

There are definately a few clip on types like for example... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ESAB-EASY-LITE-PORTABLE-LED-LIGHT-/180648483590 and if you want something properly bright that can be stuck to your bonce relatively easily pop down to your local bicycle shop

Could try your local cheep jack shop/pound land/pound strecher....Or in my case the 99p shop. Pack of three clip on 99p or 7 led headlamp 99p

I like that one, ill get one and the other head light then maybe either a hook plug in type or the above yellow big one. If i dont need them all for welding then i know they will all get used at some point.

Yup..same here..ive been faffing about for the last 20years with wandering lamps of various types..both 12v an 240v / clip on..hook on etc ..only recently did i purchase rechargable LED lights..they have a clip and a magnet thats strong..very bright white light plus no more fused/exploding bulbs or cables getting in the way .i love 'em (Cost around £30 from Ring Automotive..but e*ay has similar unbranded ones under £15)

if you brought a small solar panel one would the light from the welding keep it topped up or just kill it

seconded just don't bother with the LED versions useless!
