Hi All
Been given a cotech reciprocating saw and want to cut some angle for a hay feeder project.
I need some advice as to what cutting fluid to use for mild steel and what speed to use. Also would like to know what blades you have used and recomend. thanks

what make of saw? Then have a look at screwfix or toolstation(just google them),both those do varies blades for differnt makes.
As for a cutting oil WD40 or some 3in1 oil will get you by,low speed will do you,dont try and force the cut,let the blade do the work.

Just get a feel for whats happening and alter speed to suit.
Work better by cutting a smaller surface area, so keep altering the angle and use the plate for leverage.

Cant find what blades they take but Cotech supposed to be naff.
If same fitting as Bosch and Dewalt go for Dewalt steel cutting, much better last longer as well. Have cut 4 foot of 3/4" cast iron on two 18V batteries, blade still ok after.
Never used any coolant or lubricant, too fast it will heat up quick!

depends on how many u are cutting and if u want the blades to last longer . u can cut dry or a smear of rocol cutting compound on the blade and along the cut will make it cut faster and prolong the life of the blade. as above cast would be cut dry

Thanks for reply Stalwart, very usefull as instuctions only say use cutting fluid and dont recommend a speed.
Looking at reviews for blades on Screwfix site it seems the Delwalt blades are better than the others. The make Cotech is a cheapish one imported by a Swiss company called Clas Ohlson.
I hope it will be a bit quieter that using the disc cutter as next door get a bit annoyed when it i use the the grinder to often.

Is it the same fitting as these Bosch, Dewalt and Elu?

Most resip saw blades are universal(well newer ones are), if they fit yours go for the bosch bi metal 7'' ones ideal for steel,another thing cutting angle with a resip saw unless you take your time dont expect a dead straight cut,they can wonder if you dont watch it.
