Hi all still came on to see if anyone had responded to my query? Still no joy tracking down the maker of my vice by the looks of it.(vices post)
Anyway been buying lots of rough knarly old tools to restore and have been very lucky.
Today I couldn't find much that took my fancy so picked out four items from a box full of hammers, I went for the wierd and after cleaning two of them up a bit found two names. One axe type with side straps,Shand Mason&Co.very rare firemans axe, apparently they made fire fighting implements, horse drawn and later engine powered fire engines, established 1774. Cannot find any that have sold or are even mentioned, well only one that sold quite a few years ago, Then found an earlier naval boarding axe sold for £90 a good few years ago. I paid £1 for all four.
The other item is a Bestmore 2lb hammer made in U.K.,normal type of striking face(circular)flat faced but instead of a claw or flat tang it has a point about four inches long, wierd looking bit of kit. Again not much found on the net other than one mention on a model forum, the guy got a 1lb ball pien and was trying to find info like me. Other bits include,Moore and wright ratchet screwdriver 20 pence,
a w tyzack brickies hammer 50pence a small stormont chisel and a ward chisel 50pence for the two.
one big box of over thirty wooden hammer handles mostly new and lots of different sizes, plus twenty new smaller chisel and file handles all for two quid.
I wasn't looking for good names and all the metal tools were rusty unwanted but in my eyes quality that just needed saving.
I will post up some pictures later, a bit late at the moment, been researching after a late finish in the shed fettling.
A very happy brian
