I'm working on a 56 chevy. the stock firewall doesn't allow for a big block so it must be recessed inward. this area i cut out was the support for the gas pedal. so i had to use thick metal. the piece i used was pretty thick maybe 10g or 8g. i couldn't bend it with my hand. i was able to see the other side and penetration was good. i tacked it then did some seams.
i am a novice. this is my 3 third time welding. i did a piece in the trunk then a piece on the left side of the firewall. i plan on doing some interior floor panels. the goal is to cut the frame rails and add new rails to do a straight axle conversion. i have someone who is very experience with welding but i would like to DIY. please critic.
