Rear chassis corrosion

Hi All, I am renovating a 1979 MGBGT, Has anyone seen any photos on the forum where rear chassis repair sections are being replaced? the part where the leaf spring shackle attaches to the chassis, I have made a rotisserie so I can turn the car upside down which was useful for repairing the cross-member, sills, and floor panels, I have never repaired this part of the chassis and never seen it done so I am not shore where to begin, As the rear of the car is fastened to the rotisserie at the chassis the car will have to be taken off the rotisserie and supported to work on the chassis!there are a lot of spot welds inside the boot/trunk to drill out and a lot of welds underneath to be separated so is it best to work on the car in the upright position or turn the car upside down? once the work has started I will be unable to rotate the car until the rotisserie and chassis are reconnected.

Plenty of repair sections available.
Use the rotisserie to flip the car upside down and then use supports (trestles?) inside the boot to support the car and remove the rear rotisserie.
Think your self lucky having a rotisserie, I welded up my sons MGB GT supported on 4 axle stands with me lying on my back! Glad I had a leather welding jacket.

Hi Chucksdad.
what are the boot floor and the rear valance like as well.
as it has been said the spring hanger sections are available as repair sections.
its worth asking if it will be easier to deal with that back end corrosion as a job lot.
try the big auction site for other people's unused bits you can get some good bargains.

if the boot floor is rotten it could be removed along with the bottom section valance.
that will give you open access too the rear chassis top and bottom.
then the new boot floor panel can be fixed back in onto good metal
which will give good metal for the valance to be fixed to if that is corroded

that rear section of the chassis where the spring hangers are come as a 3 sided section and a flat section which includes the spacers for the hangers you should be able to assemble that on the bench or on the car.
try to remove the rusty section as intact as you can that way you can use it for reference. Photograph and measure as much as you can.

Hi all, Thanks for all your input and encouragement, I had come to a halt on this reno as the repair to the rear chassis members seemed a bit daunting but as usual from this forum the information and interest of other members makes the job seem doable, Just got to save up for the parts, the repair chassis rails are a hundred pounds a side plus a boot floor, I will just have to get the wife an early morning milk round to pay for them. not that hard to make the sections or cut out the bad bits and butt weld pieces in

have a read on making panels you may have to register but well worth it

as above, i would make my own,
replacements often don't fit too good so the amount of modding means it's sometimes easier to make your own,
