Re gasless wire - another vote for Lincoln Innershield 0.76mm NR-211-MP
Makes welding new 0.8mm steel to old 0.7mm steel (0.72mm multiple readings) very easy indeed, no holes. Nice flat welds, good penetration.
Did blow one hole because the postman walked past me and I followed him forgetting I was welding (!). Fortunately whilst the hole was in the 0.70mm steel two small strip of 0.55mm copper bent & clamped either side and it was quickly filled.
The Innershield does have one downside - if you are trying to get away with pinholed steel from the reverse side it will blast & splatter, cut further back. Also if you have paint contamination it will splatter and refuse to weld, more so than more tolerant gasless like Clarke.
