RDG Tools

So I ordered some bits from RDG, in particular a new milling vice. When it arrived I had ordered something entirely unsuitable for my needs.

A couple of quick e-mails and the guys there sorted me out with what I actually needed rather than what I thought I needed.

I had a ride out to their premises today and had nice friendly service and help.

Thing is I often read about how poor service is in this country and I thought it worth mentioning that there are still decent places to deal with.

Their website used to be a bit awkward, but I used it recently and it's much improved.

I bought a miling chuck and a collet set for the mill from them and found rdg great to deal with.

Me too. Someone from here recommended them once and I buy most of my lathe tooling from them and have always been pleased with the quality and service.

I emailed them the other day and although they couldn't help they replied with some helpful info.

I too have had good dealings with them in the past (haven't got anything from them for a few years). In order to save postage across the pond, I would email them the order and then when I was visiting the outlaws nearby I would pop over and have a wander around the shop (which I believe is not possible now, I think the shop part has been sacrificed to the gods of mail-order-stock-space) and add to my previously emailed order.
They were always very helpful and friendly.

They used to have some pretty good second hand stuff years ago - bought loads at several model engineering exhibits. Then they started selling imported stuff, which is definitely lower quality, as presumable s/h stuff was running out. I've bought quite a few small things in the last year or so and their service is very good.

They put a lot of folks noses out of joint when they bought the rights to the Myford name, as they went through eBay and tried to force anyone selling used Myford equipment to remove their goods. Initially eBay backed them up, but it's rather like trying to sell a Ford car and not being allowed to advertise it as a Ford - a load of non-sense.

Eventually pressure in the various magazines forced them to stop, and Chris at RDG issued an apology.
