Rawl Plug Hand Crank Mechanical Hammer Drill

I have the necessary power tools to install screw anchors, But I also like hand operated tools and have a few of the hand crank variety.
I'm confident others here have used one, so what can be said regarding an old Rawl plug manually operated hammer drill ? How good
were they, and were they built to last ?

They are well built, I have two.
One is in the van.
Getting the rills is getting a bit harder now.

Do you think an adapter could be fitted to use standard masonry bits, and would they work just as well as the Rawl bits with the tool ?

they were krap and still are if u still see them at autojumbles

I wonder if the appropriate hand crank charger exists for an 18v battery (like the wind up radio). Then you could use your DeWalt cordless SDS.

It would be interesting to asses how much effort it would take to charge the battery compared with the effort to drill the hole directly.

In fairness they were good on reasonably soft bricks and blocks, I remember using them along with the wood/fibre pre plastic plugs days

my dad brought a tin of fillplug home it was grey fibre you wet it and pushed it in to the drilled holes and put the screws in that was the good news . bad news it was asbestos fibre

I have the hand held version called a rawl punch, basically a hex bar that takes the rawl drill bits and you hit it with a hammer.
Sometimes you come across a hard bit of granite in a wall that an electric hammer drill won't touch. The rawl punch and a heavy hammer usually breaks it up.

i still have a rawltool no 14 ,trouble is you cant get the bits for them any longer . they were ideal and fast whacking them in to soft blocks for red or brown plugs
