Rated "Eye" Bolts?

Howdy guys,

Does anyone know of a stockist/supplier of the above?

Requirements are:

Capable of bearing a load - Possibility of shock loading too
80mm thread length minimum
M10x1.5 thread

At the moment, all I can come up with are 20mm thread length, which is no where near long enough unfortunately.

Most engineering merchants will have them in stud and nut type. There not very good for shock load though and if you need a higher load in the same size look at different thread types

For a tested lifting application 20mm thread is all that is probably needed for an M10 thread.

It sounds a bit like you want to pass the eyebolt through something and put a nut on the end.

Could the end of the hole be drilled out and tapped to M12 and use an M12 lifting eye, Still leaving the rest of the hole 10mm.

You can't specify an eye bolt with that information. What load does it need to bear? 250kg, 500kg, 1 tonne, 50 tonnes? Someone needs to work out the maximum load.

Any lifting tackle supplier will stock eye bolts etc, and can make them up to your requirements if needed.

Why not use the type with a tapped hole instead of the thread, you can then use whatever length bolt you want

Mad, many thanks for that. BAPP, or rather the useless one on the counter, hadn't heard of them and refused to check. Scunthorpe branch is useless anyway, so highly doubtful I'll be back there in a hurry. Trevorfield are the next bet, but they were closed by the time I got there today.


Wyn, unfortunately the other end hole can't be tapped, and a nut has to be used, as most of the structure where these points will be is either wooden, or ABS.


Paul, the maximum load will vary across their application. So different capacities will be needed. Maximum I'm looking for at the moment ranges between 30 and 400kg on 6 different units. I could install the same across them all, but surely the eye would be huge on the ones capable of taking 400kg and tiny on the 30kg ones?


Robot, I'd thought about using those. They will definately do the job, but was interested to know if the bolt type were available.

Must just be your branch. The ones in ours know what they're on with, every time I've used them.

Uniformity is no bad thing, especially if you're wanting them to take a bit of stick on occasion. Uprating them slightly to above your max requirement wouldn't go amiss either.

There are a few here (long shank) that are 178mm long .......take 250kg

You would need to go up to 12mm thread for 400kg

The load they can take is down to the thread size.

Use threaded rod and a locknut or permanent threadlock, then you can have any stud length you please.
8.8 threaded rod will be rated many times higher than the eye bolt it screws into, for example, I had to use M24 eyebolts for a SWL of 2 tonnes but the M24 rod was rated at somewhere like 30tonnes.
