Amongst the many problems I have my welder has suddenly started to develop a strange problem. Last week on a job after a good bit welding it stopped working. It was still sparking at the rod but failing to arc properly then failed to do anything. 240v was still working.
Thought it was maybe overheating as it had done a good bit welding so switched it off and left it for a while. Come back to it and it started welding again. However the amps jumped up slightly after a while and then stopped again. 240v still working after all this so can I rule out the alternator? Never mind got the job finished.
Did something similar about a year ago after a lot of welding but just seemed like a lack of amps so I turned it up way above what i needed for 3.2 rods and it worked ok and then after about half hour of welding needed turning back down to its proper setting. Tried this and still nothing.
Doing the same again today but only after about 5mins of welding. Cables are in good condition and cut all the ends off rod holders, earth clamps, etc and replaced with clean cable still not working.
I could understand the problem more if the 240v was not working. Anybody any ideas?
Thanks
