RAL codes and powder coat

I will soon have several hundred steel daffodils to get powder coated.
Customer has specified RAL 085 80 80 .
My powder coater says he can get a good match. Im happy paying through the nose to get the perfect match.
Is this possible?

Get a sample coated from the powder coaters and ask the customer if it is acceptable. They may be specifying the colour from a computer screen which may not be representative of the real colour.
Do you have a swatch of RAL colours?

The code given is the, umm, extended (I don't know the correct name) RAL set.

When I get paint mixed, I can order any standard ral colour, but they don't have the "extended" set on their computer.

It would not surprise me if you have some trouble finding the code, but a standard ral code should be easy enough.

I have a ral book, but it doesn't cover the extended set.

I'd be surprised if you could get a perfect match with powder coating due to the variations in thickness and bake temperature. That's without the variations in the powder itself.

However, it's pretty hard to choose between 3 or 4 close shades on a flat swatch card in good lighting conditions.
I think it would be really hard for the customer to tell you it's not a match on a 3d surface like a daffodil.

For a big order I'd expect the coaters to provide you a sample as mentioned above..
