Radiator capacities

Trying to work out how much water is in my garage cum loft heating system. Two single and one double radiators (all medium size) If I’m right the average single holds around 7 litres - is that correct? With the boiler and pipe runs I’m thinking 35 litres or there about.
I’m adding inhibitor / antifreeze after a lucky escape when we had a minus 13 a few weeks back.

it dosnt add up like that as you also need to factor in the water in the pipes and also at the boiler as well

its better to be over than it is to be under

yours is roughly a flat size

As its predominantly the antifreeze content/value you are looking for you may as well add a random quantity and run it, then test a sample with an antifreeze tester.

I’ve got 10 litres of Flomasta stuff ordered so I’ll give that a go.

to help you out a guide

For a heating system of up to 10 radiators, you can add a 1 litre bottle of inhibitor. For over 10 radiators, break into another bottle and use an appropriate amount extra.

so half a litre is ample enough or go over that if you think you need to do

its a retreat every year so factor that in as well

Flomasta stuff needs to be 25% to give the freeze protection to minus 11. I’m in Scotland and system is in garage / loft.

If you look on Screwfix's website at their Flomasta range of radiators they tell you the water volume, so you just need the size of yours and whether it's a single or double to get a pretty accurate figure. I don't expect they'll change much between different manufacturers. Easy enough to calculate the pipework volume as well if you know the size and where they run.
