R-Tech Tig 200DC Plug?

Hi Guys, just ordered one of the above and its been shipped today. I know it needs a 22A supply for max current (which I'm not sure I'll need) but does anyone know if this comes with a 32A "commando" blue plug or do I need to go buy one ready for Xmas day so I can have a play when the Mrs gives it to me

(after the test run of course!)

The plasma I just bought from R-Tech didn't come with a plug fitted, but they insist on a 32amp one for that machine. I'm not sure what feed yours will need, but I'd not use a 13amp if you can help it.

Some suitable filler rods might come in useful

TIG gloves... auto-darkening helmet... bottle of Argon (and a regulator).

1.6mm Filler Rods.....Check
Tig Gloves.........Check (They really don' feel very protective!)
Size Y Argon Gas........Check (I think I've just been rogered!)


Already got the ESAB OrigioTech jobby helmet, so I think I'm all set, now I just need UPS to deliver!

I have the chinese version the wsm200, which I very much suspect is the same piece of kit, as they tend to be labelled up in diffo guises.
I found it to be ok, after I got used to it.
The hf start works well, though you cant turn it off, mines has pulse mode which works well, the current tends to be less than marked on the scale by 20%, but overall it aint bad for the readies.
Took me a while to get used to stick welding with it, these things usually do when you get a newun.
I'm into circuitry and things so may well do some mods on mine, after a lot of searching I managed to get hold of the holy grail schematics for it.

Filler Rods, I would probably have bought some 1mm as well,

TIG Gloves, designed to be thin and enable you to feel the rod, only need protection from uv, no spatter with TIG

Have you stocked up on torch consumables, tungstens, ceramics, collets & collet bodies. and a spare back cap is handy, they break very easily.

how do you know if the HF is on all the time? I'm sure it switches off on my R-tech.

Paul thanks for the advice, I guess I should have stocked up on these to took a little trip back to the BOC gas & gear and got spare 1.6mm and 2.4mm collets/bodies, a back cap, heat shield and a pack of No 7 ceramics.

I'm glad I did go back becuase when asking about 1mm filler rods (which they don't carry as standard) I found out they gave me Gas Filler Rods yesterday!!!

So I think I'm finally geared up, I also bought some more Tungstens since I'm not overly keen on the thought of using Thoriated tungstens in my garage with minimal extraction due to the associated risks. So I asked for some Ceriated tungstens and was told these are no longer stocked but have been replaced by some "better" multipurpose electrodes - Plansee GoldPlus which turn out to be 1,5 % lanthanum based. Anyone used these electrodes?

BOC gas and gear (well at least the branch local to me) is useless for consumables, poor stock, not particually cheap and clueless staff. Lanthanated tungsten works well with AC and DC, personally i prefer lanthanated to ceriated but it's a personal thing rather than one flavour being better than another

Pmb5, HF is virtually always 'start only' with inverters. Traditional transformer machines need continuous HF with AC to keep the arc going as it crosses 0. Inverters switch fast enough that it's not necessary. I suspect Dr Pepper was commenting on the fact the HF start can't be switched off- most inverters offer this option (lift start) for welding in areas with sensitive electrics

you're right, it's HF start only and always on, not lift or scratch start option like on my old Thermalarc welder.

I'm no expert by any stretch, but so far i'm impressed with my R-tech unit, it seems as good as my Thermalarc welder on DC and being able to weld aluminium (it can weld, not me) is a big bonus.

BOC prices are crazy, but there isnt really an alternative. That bottle buying option isnt really much cheaper. I've only had 2 argon bottles in the last 4 years so might consider swapping.
