Quick one - Butters or Kemppi

looking at a Nexus (kemppi) 420 with separate wire feed, 6 years old for £895. Or a Butters 400iso for £400. Anyone have any advice?

Butters is good but very old now. What sort of nick is the Kemppi in?

Just bought it, butters was knackered. Don't think this looks too bad. From a reputable supplier also

I'm don't know much about Kemppi but that feeder looks the spit of the FastMIG's they do..I hear they're lovely machines to work with.

IIRC, Nexus were a kind of sub division type thing of Kemppi so in reality you're right that they ain't making stuff for other manufacturers.

With maybe, on, not so much

Haha, we've not had many Kemppis in our workshop as they're not too popular round this way. Can I ask why they're a pain to work on?

Very good question Tom.The machines are crammed with total invertor tecnology,as are the rest of the major players.Yes they are,electronically very complex.The "manufactures"of the said machine are not very happy to give the end user circuit diagrams.What really get`s my back up is that if you want a service exchange PCB they will not supply,only new.This could be a great error,there are loads of electronic repairers out there that can repair the boards.

BOC has its own distributor network, they used to be called Leengate but have since been rebranded as IWS. Nexus is the brand name of IWS's own range of goods, wires, machines, abrasives etc

It's a bog standard Kemppi K4000.
Good welders, just needlessly cramped inside, like all modern Kemppis.

I had a 3ph Kemppi Kemppomat 4000. Very similar to the machine you show above. Lovely machine, so stable with incredible build quality. Miss it but I stopped the bucket repairs so didn't really use it to it's full potential. I replaced it with a kemppi min arc mig as it suits what i do more these days.

I never had to work on it as it never went wrong so cannot comment on that side. (Regardless of the fact i wouldn't have a clue how to fix any welder)
