as some of you may know I bought a evo/rage 2 chop saw.
I find it to big for what I need.
now the question is has any body got or tried a rage 3 or 4 chop saw.
will it cut up to 20mm solid mild steel round bar?
if not what the max will it cut?
Hmm it might cut 20mm round bar for a while, but will the blade last for long?
I have the dewalt equivalent, TCT blade saw and would be wary of cutting stock of that size. I killed one blade by abusing it so am a bit careful. They is costly items.
Pretty much killed it, lost three teeth and very blunt.
Blunted it cutting stainless (fool) lost the teeth by lopping the end off a 15mm bar, it caught the tooth as it dropped off, hit the wall with an almighty bang, knocking a hole in a set of plastic drawers. Potentially nasty.
by the sound of it I may as well keep what I've got.
can any tell what the jig is called..
it hold the hand grinder and with a cutting stone on it can be used as a chop saw.in other words convert the angle grinder into a chop saw
I've seen it but can't find it any more
I've got a Rage 3, not used it a whole lot though. It's chomped 12mm x 60mm bar no probs.
I'm mindful of blade cost and just let it go slow, even then it's quick enough for me as a DIY shed-lurker...
PS I had a grinder stand, tbh it was sh*te, so much slop in it. Wasn't that Axminster one, maybe they're better than mine was. I took the worst of that out but still not great. Hoped it would speed up chopping lots of small tube 20-25mm, but doing it freehand wasn't much different.
I bought something like this from Aldi a few months back, cost around £8 as I recall, but I haven't figured out how to build it yet...it came as a box of bits.
Just got an evo 9" one to replace the Jepson 7.5" that I had for the last eight months which my lads burned out on 10mm m/s sheet. Supposed to have more power and go for longer and got a laser sight on it. Blade cost is a killer though- if ithe jepson wasn't running at its own speed it eats them, and the edges of thee teeth go so resharpening and kereping the teeth is out. If I'm using it i usually spray a bit of wd40 or ct90 on it which seems to help
