Question for the Sparkies about DNO/Electric companies

Hi

Is there a database that lists electric meter numbers and what address that meter is at ? And if so who is in charge of this database ?

The reason for asking is I'm about to change my electric supplier again but it always turns into a complete cock up. Where I live the roads don't have names and the houses only have names not numbers, unfortunately there is another house with the same name as mine in this village but we have different postcodes.... however the address linked to my meter's number is the other postcode and last time I switched I ended up paying for the other properties electric usage for months.... until they finally got it sorted but my supplier still lists my address as the other postcode

Yes there is, look on a bill for your MPRN.

Not sure who you contact as access is tightly controlled

As above, but its the MPAN you want for electricity.

Had similar issues with here, as it's a new build, and so is next door. Two new meters, registered to two new houses without names (at that point), the wrong way around, due to whoever fitting them getting confused with plot numbers.

DNO's have nothing to do with your meter there responsibility ends at the cut out. (Privatisation for you) suppliers own your meter. You do not need a smart meter but it might help in this situation?? Maybe worth looking into???

The last thing I want is a smart meter, I can see them getting me confused with the other property and decide that I'm not paying for my electric and remotely cut me off. No thanks.

If it weren’t for the high intermittent usage that my garage needs I'd be installing solar & wind & storage and getting rid of the grid altogether.
