question about high build primer and filler work

hey folks, got some max meyer 2k hs filler primer and wondering i use it wet on wet or let it cure and then rub it down with 600 or 800 wet? im sure on the data sheet it said it can be used wet on wet and can also be tinted to my desired colour, also going to repair some rust parts on arches, was thinking of sanding it to bare metal and then 2k epoxy priming it, then if its not level give it a skim of filler.
since its a full respray i dont want to miss any small dings, would a guide coat help identify any low spots once sanded?

wet on wet, you mean prime then top coat ? if so you wont be able to use a guide coat in which case you may miss things. personally if that is what you mean I wouldn't do it as things can be missed out slight imperfections that will show up like a sore thumb through the top coat

As snooper said, you can go wet on wet with topcoat but you will get a nicer finish if you flat it off first.

If your worried flat your high build back with a guide coat you can see if anythings is missed you can also see generaly when you panel wipe aswell after flatting

so let the high build dry then sand it wet with 600 or 800, will that be ok? do i need proper guide coat powder or can i use an aerosol etc?

aerosol will work fine , and id go for 800 if wet sanding

make some effort to sand it nice and flat , remember youre shaping up the panel not just scrubbing the guide coat off asap

thanks guys, so any low spots will i just give a light coat of filler, then sand and then put another guide coat to check its ok now. reason im asking is i have painted quite a few of my vans but they are usualy brand new white vans and dont tend to have any dings etc

Aerosol is fine for guide coat

As Langy say BUT get a matt black. If you use a gloss black, the laqueur content will clog your paper. One thing that has not been mentioned; If you are flatting a guide coat to get every imperfection out, you will need to block it. If im doing top work, i will go wet on wet with 3 coats of high build then guide, give it 12 hours then block back with 180 wet to find any minor highs and lows, spoon and or fill (2k Stopper) then re high build, guide and knock back wet 800 for top coat.

Filler goes under high build not on top, you will be fine filling on top of the epoxy after keying with 120-150, then filler work then hi build.

Well really there shouldn't be any if you did it right but you can use 2k stopper for any pinholes, TopStop Gold for instance.

I'm using the red oxide aerosol primer as a guide coat, that way I can tell if I'm sanding through the beige primer and exposing the black epoxy primer underneath.If I used black guide coat it would be more difficult to tell.
