question about bolt shank diameters?

im trying to cobble something together and need a shaft for something to pivot on

anyway..i have no way of wizzing something up in a lathe , so was hoping i could match a bolt shank dia to what i need

is there anything online that states bolt shanks to a fairly close accuracy? both metric and imperial

it needs to be 12mm dia or just above so i can drill it for a snug fit

Without knowing exactly what your doing its hard to advise, but I use a few shoulder screws on the machinery I build and modify, they are precision ground and available in a wide range of sizes, Look here

thanks they look ok ..cant afford a box though , i only need one

12mm dia or next size to it above...something i can match a drill to it

Allen bolts are just about spot on diameter for the size you buy. (the plain unthreaded area) and you have the added bonus of being made from a high grade material,you will be able to buy the ammount you require from any fastener stockist in your area, trying to drill a hole for a "snug" fit could be a problem depending on the quality of the drill bit and if it has been reground (maybe by somebody with little experience) ending up with uneaqual lip lengths and therefore will drill oversize) for a really good fit you could drill 12mm and either borrow a reamer or a little careful fileing and use a 1/2" allen bolt,
