I have 2 bottles here one as a spare argoshield light and was wondering if anyone knows if BOC will switch it to a pure argon one? Also whilst i'm here anyone know what pure argon costs these days?
wow £90 thats pricey, Any suggest any alternatives to BOC then? obviously at a cheaper price. I have PM'd gasman. I am in london so somewhere no too far.
PM Chrissi. She works for Air Products. I can't find the PM she sent me with the price but £80ish was what I was initially quoted by AP for Argon and she organised a significant reduction on that.
BOC will probably just amend the account (i.e. up the charges!!), that's all they do when i've switched cylinder sizes
Latest prices for BOC pureshield...
W is £66.63 per fill, £82.10 rental/year + £11.35 collection or £40.50 delivery + the dreaded
Y is £49.65 and £61.45 + the theft charges etc
AFAIK around London the only alternative is AirProducts (unless you're a light user and pay to have a rent free cylinder delivered), last time i compared them there was very little in it but as there's no Airproducts depo near me i'm stuck with BOC
Bottle rental is the killer for most unfortuanatly.Boc tell me thats how they make there money, and i doubt if AP is any different. Despite the price there is a lot of gas inside a full size industrial bottle.
Pure argon is expensive to produce in comparisson to argon/co2 mix
Hey Crissi,
I'm based in Bexley. There's several AirProducts agents in the area, a couple are pretty close by 'as the crow flys' (neither are industrial gas stockests according to the site although i doubt that'd be an issue) but nowhere near as close by as BOC for ease/travel time. An awkward journey and the need to have to remember to arrange cylinders in advance is just too much agro for a few quid but feel free to 'tempt me' with a forum discount via pm
Jabran,
There's a couple of choices for rent free that i'm aware of. I've not done the sums as the amount of argon i go through makes rental the cheaper option but i would think you'd have to be a really light user for it to be worthwhile.
Adams gas is one, they're based in Margate but deliver all over the place and have an evilbay shop. When doing comaprisons make sure you factor in the fill pressures- IIRC they only fill to around 1/2 the pressure of BOC/AP! Gasco-group also do rent free industrial gases (although they're aircon specialists), they have a few outlets around the UK, head office is in Dartford
