qualcast meb1434m blade sharpening

My neighbour got given a new mower. So I got their old one as it's blade is blunter....

It's a qualcast meb1434m.


I presume I just file an edge onto the last 3 inches or so? I assume up-cut?

I know nothing of mowers at all. I just grab the blade to try and lock it and go for that bolt in the center, right? No fancier technique?

I'm in no rush. Our postage stamp "lawn" has a way to go yet -

Yes just the ends.
Angle grinder and a flap disc works well.
Try and keep it symmetrical and with the cutting edge at the bottom.
Put a screwdriver through the finished blade and see if it's reasonably balanced.

Keeping them sharp really helps the cutting action.

Just done it on the curve of the belt sander.

I presume I'm just going for a pointy edge rather than a proper sharp finish that will, I expect, dull instantly?

just a 4" grinder will suffice.....
at our old place, twas the mole hill's that did our ride on blades in.....the front lawn was almost an acre....with what seemed like 20 moles beneath......
got fed up with traps, waited till the mole started pushing up soil and stabed it with a fork.....
in the end when she wernt at home, again waited for the moles to start pushing up soil....
1 barrel of the 12G sorted out his/my problem....

decent blades started getting €100 for a set of 3......

so the comprimise was hard service weld on the edge of the the thickest blades I could get.....
really lasted well........
