Pyrex gas saver kits

Just recieved this Pyrex gas saver kit from the states, will run a few beads and report back later

The Pyrex cup would be useful in certain blind corners.like tacking ally when you otherwise couldn't see the arc.wasnt really applicable to the type of tig I do

I really look forward to your feedback on this. I've been keen on getting one my self but heard very mixed reviews.

Right well I only got a few minutes to try them but I found the gas coverage is defiantly better than a trad gas lense but its fairly marginal but you can turn the lpm down, I put a couple of bits plate together at about 25 degree angle which meant I had to have the tungsten out 1.25" to reach the joint, tried with trad lense and coverage wasn't brilliant unless i went up to 6lpm but with the new CK it welded perfectly at 4.5 lpm and tungsten stayed nice and clean, I like them !!!

You'll do for me mate a saving is a saving whether it's 1/2 a LPM or 5 LPM gas is money so I'll definitely be investing. Interesting reading Langy cheers.

Even at a 1/2 lpm saving thats 10 percent of 5lpm which in turn converts roughly to £10 saved on a W argon refill.

You can save a bit by getting a ceramic cup the same bore as the pyrex one.same flow

Surely though with the Pyrex clear cup you can hide the tungsten a bit further up bringing the cup closer to the weld which will shield even better meaning less gas needed in that respect also. You could not do that with the ceramic you'd never see the pool

I don't suppose they make much difference in a fillet weld. Do they?

Down around certain stickout the refraction of light from the thickness of the pyrex and the angle your viewing from distorts stuff....its something you need to try out and see what works and what doesnt.
its been a while but I think the first time mine broke I cut it down with a deremel and converted it to a stubby lense.it was more useful that way till the same person dropped it again

Yeah I suppose with it been cylindrical the viewing through the cup would be distorted. I've never used one or seen one in action. Like I say I've heard very mixed opinions on them, some people love em and some can't stand the sight of them. I'll have to buy one and make my own opinion.

It's on a 17f weldcraft torch head, they actually fit any torch head

wonder if anyone has tried to make one using a normal gas lens and cut up glass test tubes. they seem to made from borosilicate glass which I understand is the same stuff that pyrex is

I'm not sure the cups are expensive enough to warrant the hassle of making it.
