Pyrex Gas Cups

Hi, had a bit of look through and not found much, so has anyone had any experience using Pyrex gas cups?
If so what are they like and are they worth it?

They are a complete novelty item for 90% of the time, maybe more.useful in some very tight or awkward places. tacking ally in a blind corner is one, you can look through the side and see when the two pools meet.
They are more delicate than ceramic nozzles.if it falls it will break.
overpriced.

I have got one and used it but didn't really get on with it.

From what i remember the CK ones were supposed to give a more uniform gas flow.

that arc shot is quite cool, but I cant really see the point unless as stated you really need to see the puddle forming in a tight corner, but even then since buying a gas lense kit for my 17 torch I find I can pull the tungsten right out and still get plenty of gas coverage and see what im doing with the bigger ceramics

Thanks for the comments, don't think I'll bother. Just wondered because I'm new to TIG and struggle like hell getting in a good position to see what is going on and thought this may help.

Keep plugging away until I find a good position I guess.

well as I say I highly recommend the gas lens kits. can poke the electrode out a bit further and get better vision

I think one real advantage of those is auto face shields will work better on low currents as the arc is not shielded from the sensor.

Otherwise, i would worry about them breaking.

A gas lens was going to be next to try, went to get one today but my local shop only had large.

Yes, I prefer a gas lens; just much more consistent results.

You can keep about 6mm tungsten stickout with an ordinary collet body and cup setup.
Then your 15ish degree angle of attack should be loads to see the pool.
I dont know how good or bad your vision is, but a cheater lense might be another help

Cheers, will try pulling the tungsten out a bit further. I think the angle is the thing, I tend to start off okay but naturally change the angle of the torch towards the upright. Vision is fine, just lack a bit of ability/technique at the moment.
