Your gonna have to bear with me here, im trying to get the welder in here, in front of the computer, so I can have a go welding following them diagrams, but Im going to have to put newspaper down to protect the carpet.

im not talking about push or pull, i'm talking about your standing position in relation to the weld to be laid. archie got what i was on about!

I get what you mean too, like Archie says, whatever suits you best, there's no hard and fast rules there. Sometimes you have to weld like that as it's the only way you can get access to the joint.
One drawback with that technique is that all the heat from the weld is directed at the torch and your hand, whereas welding right-to-left the heat is away from the torch.

As for your standing position i totally agree with Arch and woz, you just have to find out how you're comfortable...It isn't always easy! i remember myself welding steel profiles whilst sitting on my knees ontop of it,(no woz, don't even think about it!!!!) or crawling under it!!
Just do whatever makes you comfortable!
