Purpose of seemingly pointless extra tube near fuel vapour separator?

Continuing with my buggy build, I thought it best to reproduce the Evap system that was present on the donor car. I want to avoid deleting anything I don't understand, especially as the Evap system is ECU controlled.

I've asked the breakers to send me the plastic fuel vapour liquid separator and check valve shown. But I notice that the original tank has a seemingly pointlessly long tube route where it travels to the opposite end of the tank only to U turn back to the original side (from where it continues to the charcoal can in the engine bay). It's so pointless I thought it must have a purpose, so thought I best check ?

To me it looks like it has a return to the tank for any condensed vapours running through a one way check valve,
But I could be mistaken

Older Range rovers had a similar pipe that ran/vented to a charcoal filter box high in the rear door post, apparently used to get rid of fuel niffs.

Maybe the extra length is to distance the check valve from the plastic separator tank to reduce the chances of liquid fuel reaching the valve?

A couple of proposed theories that ChatGPT gave me below.

1. Temperature Management: The extended tubing might be a way to cool down the fuel vapors before they reach the canister. By running the line a longer distance, the fuel vapor has a chance to cool before reaching the canister. This can help to condense some of the heavier hydrocarbons in the vapor, reducing the loading on the charcoal canister.
2. Vapor Separation: It could also serve as an extended vapor/liquid separator. The U-turn could cause any liquid fuel in the vapor to pool due to gravity and inertia, preventing it from reaching the canister.
