Hi Everyone,
I need some advice, please.
I want to start MIG welding and I am considering buying a Clarke Welder.
I am a Land Rover Driver and want to make a strong New Trailer eventually.
I have phoned Machine Mart who told me I wouldn't be able to use a 150amp Welder on a Domistic Power Supply, The maximum I could use would be a 130amp! Is this correct???
I was under the impression that if it is single phase rated then you could use it with a Domestic 3 pin plug but the plug would need a higher amp fuse fitted? is this correct? or am I totally wrong
I was also told you cannot weld outside with a standard MIG and that I would need to purchase a GAS/NO GAS Welder and not exceed 130amps (E.G A Clarke 130EN Welder) Apparently the weld produced on this type of machine using Flux wire is not as strong as traditional weld!! This concerned me.
I also want to weld alluminium Land Rover Panals as the prev owner drilled holes everywhere and I was wondering whether a 150amp is to powerful for this.
It's all very confusing!!
In summary, I am looking for advice on a Machine that will weld a good strong plant trailer for my Land Rover and be capable of all sorts of DIY Projects. I love the sound of a Clarke 150amp MIG but I'm worried I won't be able to use all of it's features because I am working in my garden, with a standard 3 pin plug.
Please Help.
