Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has any experience with an OTC DP400 pulse mig welder?
I was wondering what volts, wire speed etc, pulses would be ideal for welding 3mm ( 1/8") checker plate ally?
At work we have been using 5356 wire 1.2mm with OK results. I brought in a roll of 4043 and the stuff just would not run properly. 4043 from reading on the net is supposed to have less soot, and better wetting as it has 5% silicon instead of the 5% magnesium.
I think this has pulse on pulse but I'm not too sure. It is a DC wave pulse.
The guy using it says that it will tend to blow through the 3,, ally. In particular when he does a 3mm edge to edge outside joint. I thought the beauty of the pulse welders was that they can do the thin stuff easily and NOT melt through??
I noticed on the front panel of the machine it has settings for the wire type like mild steel, flux wire etc.
It only has two settings for ally wire which are Al/Pr (pure), and Al/Mg (5356 MG 5% magnesium). There is no setting for 4043 which would be Al/Si
Dos this mean the machine can not run this wire?
What would be some ball park figures for wire speeds etc for the 3mm ally.
