Finally managed to get started on my project van. I got it for peanut's as needs a fair amount of welding doing, so with work at the moment I'm only getting a few hours hear and there but I've made a start I'll add pictures as build goes along.

A lot of the rust is on the drivers front corner and the culprit seemed to be a broken bonnet hinge that had been badly repaired meaning bonnet didn't shut fully allowing all the rain to run into engine bay and attack it. The front cross member was so rotten as I was removing it it bent in half! I managed to get a hole pile of spares from a breakers and now new cross member is fitted and bonnet hinges

Looks good. Very neatly done. I never know how you guys manage to get short runs of weld on car body patches. I can only manage to join the patches with the tacking technique, otherwise it blows through. This is on a Cebora 180 with lowest power and halfway on the wire speed.

it can depend on where on a vehicle it is and what age it is. I find the older vans easier as the metals thicker thicker. for the step I've used 1.2mm as I have a lot of left overs from jobs . I'm using a 250mig on about 14amps. Wire about 8 but each welder is different different. What wire are you using? I'm using 0.8mm but 0.6mm is betting on cars

0.6 wire, though the metal has been mostly 1mm I think. Not helped by the fact that most of the welding has been in tricky places like the wheel arch or boot corners, where the patch is curved and access is quite difficult.

The next part I have got to weld on the van is inside the suspension column which will be tricky. I tend to spot weld about every inch and do a spot next to each one and so on on really thin stuff as the cooler the metal the less likely to blow through.
