PTO compressor

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with PTO compressors and weather they are specific to vehicle manufacturers or are they a generic fitting?

I am after a new van and am after fitting one so I don't have to tow the Atlas that I borrow now and then. Most second hand vans with them fitted are either too new and expensive or abused and rotten, plus they are almost always fitted to mwb sprinters and ivecos or lwb transits and I am after either a lwb sprinter/crafter or jumbo transit.

Also, what cfm can I get from a pto compressor as I have a blast pot I will be needing to power off it and it needs around 28cfm to run it?

I'd expect the fittings to vary depending on what vehicle they're going on - the actual pumps may be common, but I don't see how the fitment can be.
It sounds like you'll need a lot of air, I think you'll struggle. You could fit a petrol compressor in the back, but anything giving out 28CFM is going to be big. No doubt you'll need a big receiver too?

I used to have a Drum underfloor compressor on a Transit. Very unreliable and expensive to run. Stick with the road tow unit, at least you can use red diesel in it, and you don't have the extra weight in your van all the time.

I work on Cats fitted with Bendix Tuflow compressors, they are very reliable units, also available with belt drive for other mountings (the Cat fitment drives from the timing chest).

Although I use the road tow as and when I am hoping to use air power more frequently when I am out on call for my tools as well as the blasting gear. I have heard that some pto compressors can kick out around 100cfm!!!

Rig Pig, although I know nothing about how to fit one I appreciate your reply. I will google the equipment and give them a bell.
