PTFE on diesel?

Need to replace a hand primer on an old diesel, can I use PTFE thread tape?

If the OP needs to seal the joints, there are good liquid sealants suitable for the fuel.

No. In my experience, someone had ptfe some bits on a diesel engine, and the ptfe tape had broken down and blocked the filter / gauze on the injection pump. Some months later the oil pressure sensor failed, full of ptfe tape.

I used Heldtite on the fittings for my heating oil tank, small tin cost about £12 and it's designed for this purpose but as already said you shouldn't need it.

When i used to fit oil fired heaters the main thing we were given was Rocol oil seal as it never seemed to fail.
