Psychic warranty dates

I burnt mine out using clean and strip poly disc on scooter panels. They were both old and well used so I invested in the Metabo we14-125 Quick for a good price from FFX and will just use my other old cheapies for occasional cutting disc duties. I have an old Stayer grinder that is on it's fourth set of brushes so I don't think that one will be around much longer.

Two years, three, upto six... is it not the case that after the first 6 months the onus is on the consumer to proove that the goods are faulty/not fit for purpose?

It's too late to read legalise (not that there's ever a time when it's more interesting than watching paint dry) but from the UK sales of goods archive...

In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).

• If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)

From article 5 of the EU link...

3. Unless proved otherwise, any lack of conformity which becomes apparent within six months of delivery of the goods shall be presumed to have existed at the time of delivery unless this presumption is incompatible with the nature of the goods or the nature of the lack of conformity.

Part of me is thinking that if an extended warrenty is available then the manufacturers expect the thing should last so case closed. On the other hand extended warrenties are probably classed as insurance as far as the law is concerned?
