protective film for mild steel sheets?

I need something for mild steel sheets - for bench tops after making them so air moisture doesn't surface rust them. Something that is easy to peel off. Any ideas? Thanks.

Surface protection film, if you mean a layer of actual material.

Vasoline then cover with oil impregnated newspaper / brown paper. You could go full "military" and use Cosmoline.

I just used a decent primer....
when it gets scruffy just DA it and paint again...
