Propane torch

I know this is one of those 'why bother' type questions, when the things are readily available and produced by several companies, but has anyone ever made their own propane torch, nozzles etc.?

I saw B.A. Baraccus make one in a barn once on the A-Team. Not sure it was realistic though, as they went on to make a Mastiff out of an old farm truck and some scrap gates.

I think Roofman once posted a picture of a torch/burner type thing for roofing that used less gas than a normal one.

Cheers. I'll have a look at that site. It's not for any specialised use or such, but none of the readily available ones rock my boat in the design/looks department, and I detest the look of that chrome/nickel plate they seem to put on a lot of them.

Both, probably. Have been considering trying to adapt an old paraffin blowtorch to make a self contained, portable unit, but also thinking about a torch for connecting to a bottle too. It'd be old fashioned styling though, with both function and form. Sad I know, but I'd like a torch which looks sexy as well as being useful, and none of the manufactured ones do it for me.

Just buy a cheap Clarke torch and pimp it with a brass handle or something. It's alright making forge burners which can be turned on and lit where you are out of the line of fire but if I'm holding it in my hand I want a certificate of conformity to fall back on.

Just heat it from the front, auto feed solder roll is an optional extra.....

correctamondo young Maker...had another pipe introduced into the gas stream pre-burner head and 5 psi of air resulted in a flame twice as hot and half the gas pressure needed. ive used it on flat roofs with great results

Just been reading up on soldering, welding etc. in an old tome from 1923, and didn't realise that arc welding had been around as long as it has. 1880's, apparently. It also makes mention of a suitable glass filter consisting of two sheets of ruby glass and one sheet of either green or blue.

Anyhows, back to the point of gas. The old coal gas torches seem to have had more the type of look I'm aiming for.
